Nick Sartain is the Head of Geotechnical Engineering at HS2 Ltd, where he is responsible for the specification, integration, and assurance of geotechnical workstreams on the project. He has more than 25 years of experience in geotechnical design including earthworks, foundations, slope engineering, seismic engineering, and geotechnical risk assessment, and has found the most interesting challenges are presented by the interactions of multi-disciplinary design.

Nick has worked on projects across the globe in sectors including offshore and onshore oil and gas, highways, railways, and buildings, and contributed to the design of the tallest statue in the world. He has published several technical papers on a variety of topics, was a principal author of the ICE’s Specification for Piling and Embedded Retaining Walls, 3rd Edition, and until recently, he was the deputy editor of the ICE’s Geotechnical Engineering Journal.

He is a Visiting Professor of Transport Infrastructure Engineering at 新澳门彩历史开奖记录, and is the industrial supervisor to a 新澳门彩历史开奖记录 PhD, and to a Royal Academy of Engineering Fellowship.
